DIANN ATKIN
Textiles
My work incorporates various materials naturally associated with my agricultural background, such as wood, plastics, wire and wool. My present work involves the use of wool and the craft associated technique of crochet to create pieces of art. The freeform pieces evolved as I began a process of self analysis that questioned how social conditioning creates our genders and the results reflect my subsequent battle to free myself from matriarchal shackles and expectations placed upon me. My work reflects the anger I feel at the constraints placed upon me and I therefore see my work as an act of defiance.
